Speakers at Yucatan Annual Meeting – Miguel Guimaraes Vásquez

Miguel Guimaraes Vásquez is an environmental human rights defender for the Shipibo-Konibo people of the native community Flor de Ucayali. He is currently vice president of the Interethnic Association for the Development of the Peruvian Jungle (AIDESEP) and was previously president of the Federation of Native Communities of Ucayali and Affluents (FECONAU) from 2019 – 2021, one of the oldest indigenous federations in the Peruvian Amazon. From FECONAU he has been at the forefront of the struggle for indigenous rights in the Peruvian Amazon, particularly in the case of Santa Clara de Uchunya.
