Working Session:
The People at the Center of Bioeconomy Transitions: Smallholder Producers, Indigenous Peoples & Local Communities
Thursday, 22 May 2025
Centro de Convenções da Universidade Federal do Acre | Sala Açaí
14:30 – 18:00
- Overall Objective. The objective of the session is to define a priority agenda to strengthen the participation of small-scale producers, Indigenous Peoples, and local communities in the transition toward an inclusive bioeconomy, promoting their role in sustainable value chains, sharing cross-border experiences, and articulating concrete actions with decision-makers to integrate their perspectives.
- Overview. The session is divided into three parts. First, an opening panel where Indigenous leaders and organizations discuss the role of local producers in an inclusive bioeconomy. Then, breakout group discussions: one focused on bioeconomic value chains in the MAP region (Madre de Dios, Acre, and Pando), and another on strategies to engage communities in the Andes and Amazon. Finally, group findings are presented, followed by a panel with decision-makers to define a priority agenda and next steps to strengthen the participation of small-scale producers, Indigenous Peoples, and local communities.
- Specific Objectives. To produce recommendations to GCF Task Force members, we will use the guiding question: “What should be the role of smallholder producers, indigenous people and local communities in an inclusive bioeconomy?”
