GCF Task Force Performs First Workshop for Low-Emissions Rural Development In Jalisco

The Trust Fund for the Administration of the Forest Development Program (FIPRODEFO) from the state of Jalisco, in coordination with the Ministry of Environment and Territorial Development (SEMADET), the Earth Innovation Institute, the Governors’ Climate and Forests Task Force (GCF), and Pronatura Sur, A. C., carry out the Jurisdictional Platforms workshop LED-R: Produce and Protect, GCF Impact and GCF Knowledge and Database.

 

The objective of this workshop was to publicize jurisdictional platform strategies of low-emission and development (LED-R) and establish collaborative networks for data verification, improvement, and use and access aligned to the interests of each Mexican state belonging to the GCF Task Force and state MRV systems. As well as to present the structure, objectives and uses of the platforms, which are, Produce and Protect, GCF Impact and GCF Knowledge Database and link the recent efforts in forest monitoring of each Mexican state of the GCF Task Force with the LED-R platforms.

 

These objectives are significant to the actions that these States should put in place as members of the Working Group of Governors for Climate and Forests (GCF Task Force); which is an international platform made up of 33 other states or provinces around the world that conserve a third of the world’s tropical forests and are committed to reducing deforestation in their territories. In addition to identifying state initiatives, thematic axes and indicators that can be strengthened to make more effective the communication of the jurisdictional advance in Mexico and the integration of the private sector in the development of low emissions.

 

It is aimed primarily at the delegates, implementing partners, national coordinator of the Mexican member states of the GCF Task Force, as well as the bodies involved in the topic belonging to the REDD + Working Group of the Inter-institutional Commission for Action before the Climate Change of the State of Jalisco (GT REDD + Jalisco). In this sense, the workshop will allow to know databases, indicators, their use and connection between the different information and investment platforms of the Mexican states of the GCF Task Force (Campeche, Quintana Roo, Yucatan, Chiapas, Oaxaca, Tabasco and Jalisco ) for the promotion of sustainable products free of deforestation among the private sector.
