Martha Gutierrez Fontes joined the Governors’ Climate and Forests Task Force (GCF Task Force) in 2022. She manages the Global Secretariat’s Operations out of the Emmett Institute on Climate Change and the Environment at University of California, Los Angeles and contributes to the empowerment of governors and civil servants in 11 countries leading the forest and climate agenda.
With over two decades of professional experience, Martha specializes in business operations and planning. Her role strengthens the network’s visibility on the global stage by leading the development and implementation of operational systems and guidelines to streamline work across the network, leading the planning and execution of high-profile multinational meetings, conferences and events, and strengthening presence in global forums such as those led by UNFCCC and UNBCC, interfacing with government, academia, the private sector, non-profit organizations, and the press.
Martha is a native Spanish speaker, fluent in English, and has knowledge of Portuguese and American Sign Language. She holds an International Business degree from the Universidad Autónoma de Baja California, México, as well as other professional development certificates.
