Blueprint for a New Forest Economy

Building a New Forest Economy requires a sustained commitment to creating whole new industries that will generate the jobs and economic opportunities that our people need and deserve. In December 2023, we called upon our national governments and the international community to mobilize $1 billion to support our efforts to build a New Forest Economy. Today, the Governors’ Climate and Forests Task Force is putting forward a Blueprint for how this money can be deployed. Our Blueprint identifies four building blocks for a New Forest Economy: Bioeconomy, Natural Infrastructure, Restoration, and Intensification. This Blueprint outlines some of the new and existing funding mechanisms that could be used to support promising initiatives in these four key areas. In our view, the most important thing is to get started now and adopt a continuous improvement approach as we move forward and learn from experience.
